Truck & SUV Tires in San Antonio, TX

Truck and SUV tires carry a load range rating matched to the vehicle's GVWR, not just its rim size — a passenger tire swapped onto a work truck can be under-rated for the load it's carrying. San Antonio Tire Shop mounts and balances truck- and SUV-rated tires across its 12-community service area, operates Mon–Sat 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Sun 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM most days.

Rim size is the easy part. The number that actually matters on a truck or SUV is the load range — a letter like C, D, or E stamped on the sidewall — that tells you how much weight the tire is built to carry at a given pressure. Put a passenger-rated tire on a half-ton work truck loaded with equipment, and it'll hold air just fine while being rated for less weight than the truck is putting on it.

The service area covers San Antonio plus 12 surrounding communities, and trucks and SUVs make up a large share of what comes through for tires — vehicles used for towing, hauling, or just covering more highway miles than a daily commuter car.

What load range does my truck or SUV actually need?

The number to match is stamped on the truck's door jamb sticker, not guessed from what looks close in size. A tire with a lower load range than the sticker calls for will run underinflated for the weight on it even at the correct PSI, which shows up as heat buildup, uneven wear across the tread, and a shorter tire life than the same tire on a lighter vehicle.

Do you keep truck and SUV sizes in stock, or is it a special order?

Common work-truck and full-size SUV sizes get stocked; less common sizes on lifted trucks or older SUVs sometimes need to be ordered in. Either way it gets sorted out on the call before a truck gets scheduled for a drop-off, since a work truck off the road for a day is a bigger cost than the tire itself.

What about the spare?

A mismatched spare — wrong load range, or a size close enough to look right — is common on trucks that have been through a few tire changes over the years. Worth checking it against the door sticker at the same time the road tires get swapped, not after it's the one thing between you and being stranded.

Can I mix load ranges across the four tires?

It's not recommended — running a mix means the tires respond differently under the same load and pressure, which shows up as uneven wear and can affect how the vehicle handles under a full load or while towing. If a mismatch is already on the vehicle, we'll flag it and talk through fixing it on your schedule, not force a same-day four-tire replacement.

How is a truck tire rotation different from a car's?

Trucks and SUVs that tow or carry regular loads wear one end of the vehicle faster than a passenger car does, so the rotation pattern — and how often it's worth doing — depends more on how the vehicle's actually used than a fixed mileage number. Tell us what the truck's doing, towing, job-site hauling, mostly empty, and the pattern gets set around that.
